5 Mistakes New Indoor Cycling Instructors Can Avoid
Are you a new indoor cycling instructor?
If you’re still getting nervousness butterflies in your stomach every time you have to teach a class, this post is for you.
We were all newbies once (and some of us still are). There we were out of our instructor orientation/training thinking we were ready to go out there and rock the world of those indoor cyclists.
A few classes later we had more questions than answers, one above all:
Why didn’t they teach me this in instructor training?!
Well, because it is impossible to teach you everything in the time spent on instructor orientation training by major indoor cycling certification entities. Even if they spent more time on training, it would still be impossible to cover everything you need to know, to go over every possible scenario you will encounter in your class, every possible shade of crazy and weird you are going to see, and every possible question you are going to be asked.
You teach and learn.
But there’s something I thought I could do to help you out.
I asked my fellow indoor cycling and Spinning® instructors what were the mistakes they had made when they first started teaching, and what would they have changed if they could go back in time to when they first started.
Here’s what they said.Continue Reading
Sweet Potato Breakfast Skillet
Hi guys! How was your weekend?
Mine was great 🙂 Hubby and I tried a new workout this Saturday – Les Mills Bodypump™. Our Y just introduced those to the schedule and I was very curious to try it as I’d heard a lot of raving about it from my friends all over the place.
It didn’t disappoint! (I’m still sore)
It’s basically weight training (not cardio) done in a group ex. setting with instructor’s guidance. I loved it! Once my muscles heal, I’ll definitely be going back 🙂
Now on to our normal Tuesday activity – Tasty Tuesday Linkup Party!Continue Reading
One Pot Pasta with Shrimp Recipe
Hey guys! It’s party time here at Lean Lena’s!
So after all that holiday cooking and over-the-stove-slaving I didn’t feel like cooking at all last night.
We still had leftover salmon and mashed potatoes and we almost settled for that as our dinner.
And then my consciousness spoke to me, I lifted my butt off the couch and went to the kitchen. 🙂
But before I did that, I did some Pinterest searching for a nice and easy recipe that I could use/adopt based on what I had in the fridge. I searched for one pot pasta recipes with shrimp (because I had never tried making a one pot pasta before and I had a pack of shrimp in the freezer). I found this awesome recipe for One-Pan Coconut Shrimp Noodle Bowls by Bev Cooks. I didn’t have all the ingredients the original recipe was calling for, so I made my own with what I had on hand. I present to you my twist on Bev’s recipe:

Teaching TRX Class – Tips to be Prepared
Hey guys! You know that I’ve recently started teaching TRX ® here at our Y, right?
No, that’s not me in the video 🙂
I’ve just started but I thought I’d share some sort of recap and tips after I’ve taught a few classes.
This post has some tips that I figured out for myself to make my first few classes as easy on me as possible, as I was pretty nervous. Some of my struggles teaching TRX for the first time and how I tried to overcome them.
I hope you find it helpful for teaching TRX for the first time (or not just the first time).
As this post has been written by a true gadget-head, you’ll see a lot of gadgets in it – naturally 🙂 Here we go!
